Description

The Wyandotte chicken is an American breed of chicken developed in the 1870s. The Splash Laced Red Wyandottes are beautiful chickens that have a laced color pattern which is mahogany/red in color with light grey around the edge of every feather. Similar to the Blue Laced Red, Splash is the lightest shade out of the blues. This chicken makes an excellent pet and is good for eggs and/or meat. They will on occasion go broody and they make excellent mothers. They work well in confinement or free range and are a great back yard chicken. Cackle Hatchery® only offers at this time our production type/line not a show type. The Splash Laced Red Wyandotte is not currently recognized by the Standard of Perfection; however, several are working on getting this color recognized.

Absolutely beautiful birds. Only thing I didn’t like was I ordered 24 pullets and 3 roosters. I got 60 straight run 54 of which were roosters. Yes I got more than I ordered but. I would have at least liked a call or email to ask if that was okay. Definitely didn’t need that many roosters.

I am normally not an impulse-buyer, but am so glad that we bought two Splash-Laced Red Wyandottes while picking up our order. Both are beautiful, sweet, and very healthy girls. They are still a little young to lay eggs, but they are both built well for egg-laying and are busily inspecting the nestboxes. They are both good with our other hens, which is nice since we keep a mixed flock. Both girls like to hop up on our backs and our laps, and they sound like they’re purring when we pet them. Next time we are asked advice on breeds, we’ll definitely include these gentle girls in our list of recommendations.

    great service…..but

I ordered 5 ea of the Splash Laced Red Wyandottes pullets, 5 ea Colombian White Wyandottes pullets and 15 ea Rainbow assortment pullets. The chicks hatched April 13 2020 and I received them April 15th. I was delighted when all survived the trip and were absolutely healthy and strong. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the hatchery had generously added 5 extra babies in to bunch. I do realize the the sexing can be difficult but out of the 5 Splash Laced chicks I ordered 3 of them are roosters. I did not order a straight run. I did not get any other Splash Laced in the 15 assortment or the added 5 chicks the hatchery sent. On top of that, I also got 1 Rhode island Red rooster. Not super happy with 3 of the 5 Wyandottes being roosters. All of that being said, the birds are beautiful! The assortment of colors and attitudes of the bird are just great! The Splash Laced feather colors and patterns are truly remarkable. Can’t wait until the all start laying.

    Stunning, healthy birds

I ordered 3 pullets, and 4 survived the journey 😉 1 was a runt that was clearly smaller and less developed than the others, and even she has grown into a beautiful, healthy, friendly bird.

I think there a great breed to have

I did order I believe in the batch just BLRWD and which I did get a rooster but I was only suppose to 1 rooster and get hens of BLRWD. Not sure if they didn’t hatch right or what happened but I got sent the splash. There very docile and beautiful. It was the first week of August maybe 2nd when I got them. And they are thriving. 5months old now. Still waiting to lay to see how egg production is. But so far I think there a great backyard chicken. My rooster isn’t mean or aggressive that I’ve seen so far.

  6. Farmer Joe

    Beautiful

Docile, gentle, pretty birds. Bought three girls in Spring of 2019 and have not had any of them lay yet.

  7. Robson

    very good work

    the prices are competetive

  8. Two By Two Farms

    Great homestead birds

These layers are fabulous – sweet disposition, hearty, laid right on time every time. Easy keepers.

  9. Karen

    Great choice

These girls are such a beautiful addition to my flock! Very happy with them. They are friendly calm hens. The eggs are a nice size and very rich yolks! Love these girls.

  10. SOD Kennels

    Splashed laced and beautiful!

I ordered 15 fancy birds of all types. I bought 3 of the red splashed laced wyandottes and they are beyond beautiful! These girls will be a great addition to any flock whether large or small. They are quite friendly and docile. Thanks Cackle Hatchery for such a lovely assortment of birds!

  11. Hippie chick

    Large chickens

The lace Wyandotte’s are very nice size chicken. They haven’t started laying as of yet but hope they’ll start soon.

  12. mj

    lovely calm hens

So pretty and are a calming influence for my flock of cinnamon queens. They love to forage and free-range, so they fly out of their fenced run while the cinnamon queens are content to stay inside. Lays large brown eggs but the cinnamon queens are quicker to lay and are more productive egg layers.

  13. PS

    Great birds

So I ordered a large array of Wyandotte’s so I could get all the color varieties. I have to say that the splash laced pullets I got are some of my favorites in the flock they are beautiful and smart. Can’t wait till hatching season next spring!

  14. Roxy

    Very pleased

The splashed laces red Wyandotte where absolutely beautiful, they made a great addition to our backyard pets. Hope to purchase more in the future.

  15. New Chicks

Paid for females and received 2 males

I’m disappointed as I paid for females and out of the 3 chicks I paid for, 2 were roosters.

  16. No Nickname

Very pleasant chickens, I love the plumage!

Beautiful birds and the hens are great layers!

  17. Beautiful

    Beautiful & friendly

I ordered 4 of the Splash laced Wyandotte and 3 survived the journey. I did end up with a rooster as they didn’t have sexed birds at the time of delivery. The rooster is quite beautiful and pretty friendly but too noisy to keep in my neighborhood. They seem to be pretty hardy birds and are a beautiful addition to my flock.

    Lovely hens

I ordered some of these beauties along witha few Black Americaunas, and I love them! All three are ever so slightly differing in color, with one having a much white collar than the other two, making it easier to tell the individuals apart. They are very sweet, and with training, they come when I call them in. Whenever I let them out of their enclosure, they love letting their energy out in bursts of short flight. That being said, they are sneaky and mischievous, and have snuck out of a 1’x1′ space 6-8′ up that I hadn’t fenced over.

Overall, their coloring is ethereal and they are sweet birds, definitely not top of the pecking order to my two older birds, a Buff Orpington and a Plymouth Rock. Looks like it takes them about 6 months before they’ll lay eggs as well. I got mine end of May, and they haven’t started yet at the beginning of November. Highly recommend!

    Beautiful Birds!

I ordered 10 to add some beauty and elegance to my flock of naked neck turkens. These birds were bold and beautiful right out of the box. They have thrived under our pasture-based management system and are gorgeous. Amazing feather pattern and coloring along with excellent foraging and production.

  20. Erica

    Friendly and calm

We ordered some of these in spring 2019 to help get up to the correct number of chicks for our shipment. We ordered straight run and received a 50:50 ratio of cockerels to pullets. They have been good layers and are really gentle with my children. One of our pullets even decided to go broody!

    Splash Laced Nice Birds

I received several Splash Laced Wyandotte hens as replacement birds for my original order of a few of the Blue Laced Wyandottes that didn’t survive the very long trip. These are really pretty and unusual looking birds…which was my goal with all the birds I had purchased. I wanted a flock of “different” patterned and colored hens. They seem quite hardy, very friendly and curious. Really love the color and greatly appreciate the suggestion for these from the Hatchery staff. I love having friendly and curious birds!

    Not What I Expected

The four birds that I received were not at all what I expected. I really don’t think they are what they are suppose to be but there was no substitution listed for them. They look more like barnvelders or a Cornish cross. They are pretty birds but are definitely not what the picture showed.
