Cackle Hatchery® offers the Silkie bantams in a special package as surplus. In this special you could receive any of the following color varieties: White, Black, Blue, Buff, or Splash. We will give you the best special as possible based on what hatched and we do not guarantee a variety. You could get all one color variety or an assortment of colors. There is no guarantee of an assortment in this special.

The April 12th, 2023 hatch had issues. We ordered a 5 pack of silkies and received 1 white, 2 splash, 1 dark gray “blue” and 1 black. The color variety was great, but we lost 2/5. The white was a crossbeak and the splash who passed away just lost the will to live even with electrolytes. They weren’t the strongest stock of chicks upon arrival (those were noticeably weaker). However we do have the 3 remaining and they are wonderful. The splash silkie pullet is very high quality. Her head ans beard are so poofy she can hardly see! The black rooster is very handsome with a deep broad chest (exactly what you want!) and is soooo fluffy! Lastly, the blue rooster isn’t as high quality. He’s the only one not bearded, but his crest and foot feathering are great! Black has one fused 5th toe. Splash pullet has perfect feet and toes for showing. HOWEVER, he and the other silkies are just incredibly friendly around tiny humans. Keeping all the silkies that made it for sure.

I ordered 5 of the silkie assortment and received my order 2 days after they hatched. They gave me an extra chick so I ended up with 6. I was super impressed with the assortment! I received 2 black, 2 gray and 2 yellow chicks. Very very pleased with this assortment. I have had chicks shipped before from Hoover Hatchery and had a terrible experience with the chicks being shipped in too small of a container and most of them were dead upon arrival. My experience with Cackle Hatchery has been nothing but positive! The chicks looked great upon arrival and after 5 days of receiving them all are doing well!! Highly highly recommend! I am very pleased with my purchase!

I ordered 5 of the this special, 5 Dark Brown Egg Female Surplus, 5 Blue Egger Female Surplus. Received 17 chicks, one was listless upon arrival, the rest were fairly active. I followed the info in the pamphlet. Unfortunately, another one became listless. I was able to get them to drink. They didn’t make it, the trip must have been too much for them. I sill have 15 very active chicks. I cant wait to see what breeds I have been given.
I order these because I got a Silkie by accident, and she is the friendliest chicken I have ever owned. If you are going to have a flock might as well be be a interesting.

I lost one in shipment that was crushed and another to illness with 24 hrs. Some of them developed pasty butt that required removal with a warm wash cloth followed by olive oil to prevent further dried poop. Luckily, no further issues with the olive oil preventative. All chicks are now thriving and beautiful. In total I lost 6 chicks, but the remaining chicks are beautiful and active. Silkies in general will be more fragile, so be prepared with supplements and olive oil.

I ordered 20 Silkies total (5 Splash and 15 of the Silkie Special). All chicks arrived healthy and active and I received extras. The received at least one or two of each color in the Special, so I was very happy with that! I am noticing that they are pretty fragile and not very hardy chicks as I have lost three of them so far despite careful monitoring (in comparison, I have 45 other chicks right now of different breeds and haven’t lost any). So Cackle did an amazing job and I definitely recommend ordering from them, just be aware that these little guys are pretty fragile and definitely order extras.

I ordered 5 silkie bantams on March 26th and then I decided to expanded my coop by a lot so I placed a second order on the 27th for 15 silkie bantams. Yesterday on April 9th I received my first batch of chicks and I received one extra yay! All were healthy and happy and I got an amazing color variety. Very pleased with the chicks I received. I ordered 15 and 18 were shipped to me in Florida. ALL ARRIVED ALIVE which is fantastic for how fragile the Silkie breed is! Silkies aren’t for everyone this breed is very fragile and if not using the proper bedding, lights, feed, etc. these chicks will not do well. My chicks are 4 weeks old now and thriving! I have received a mixture of all the Silkie colors the hatchery offers. This is my 5th maybe 6th order with Cackle and I fir sure will always order from them in the future! Thank you!

Beautiful Birds, Not Hardy
We ordered a 5 pack of the Silkie special. One arrived dead, though an extra was included. They’re very sweet and amusing birds, but are not terribly hardy. We lost three of the remaining five before they were six months for unknown reasons, but the remaining two (both buff colored roosters) appear to be thriving at 8 months.

We ordered our silkies in June, and we have two hens laying eggs. We initially ordered 10, but received 12. All of them were healthy and happy. I would definitely recommend Cackle Hatchery to anyone interested in raising chickens.

I ordered a 15 pack of silkies hatched out on 03/11/19 I ended up with 3 black 5 splash 5 buff and 6 white! Unfortunately they made an attempt on their lives by trying to swim in the waterer despite placing dragontears in almost to the top and 5 didn’t make it. Still have 14 healthy and thriving little fluffy babies. I don’t think I will ever raise them again will stick to a low maintenance bird

Very happy with our order of 5 ( received 7) silkies. All are doing well no losses, even with my kids playing with them a couple times a day. Can’t wait to see how the colors turn out, we have one dark gray or black, 4 yellowish, 2 light gray, adorable and so simple to order and receive, PO called when they arrived, and I went and grabbed them!

I ordered 15 and received 18 adorable chicks. Good variety of all colors. Only lost one at about 3days. Now I have a wonderful flock of furballs that are just loads of fun! Great experience and I am planning to order again next year for some predator resistant range birds.

August 3 2018, Recieved our bantam silkie order this morning.Ordered 10 received 12 all doing exceptionally well. Surprisinglly all 12 were perky and happy after traveling from Missouri to Northeastern PA in 48 hrs. Thanks to the post office for the gentle handling and to Cackle Hatchery for the healthy well packaged chics. Will update in two weeks to keep all informed of our new additions to our home.

Fragile chicks
We ordered a mix of silkies to get a variety of colors. By the time we had finished brooding, we were left with two blacks, two splash, and nine whites. Silkie chicks are fragile, so overall, we were very pleased with the results.
Despite their fragile nature, all of the silkie chicks arrived alive and alert. I just wish that they would have all stayed that way over the following few days (that’s when we had the losses.) I would not hesitate to order again, although I would probably order more chicks rather than just fifteen.

Everything went perfectly. We ordered 28 chicks from different varieties & got 35 total. Shipped on May 26 & got here on the 28th. I was so worried the post office would mess things up. They never called me but thanks to Cackle’s system, I got the tracking # & monitored the shipment. They all arrived perfectly fine chirping like crazy & moving around. I followed their instructions & all were doing great til Saturday when 1 of the porcelain duccles died overnight. For such a long journey I am extremely & pleasantly surprised. We ordered 5 of these silkies & got 1 extra.I can’t really tell what the different colors will grow into yet but there is 1 yellow one, 1 yellow with a slight tinge of orange, 2 gray ones, & 1 darker gray one. All arrived safe & sound. Most of them are always sold out, so I’m super excited this silkie special exits!!! Got them to introduce even more “good mother” & “sweetheart rooster” genes that we already have a few of in our existing flock. We have one silkie rooster from last year where we ordered just a few of them. He’s been the sweetest rooster to our hens & is so gentle with them. Most the rest of our hens are high performing layers who don’t incubate eggs well. so hopefully soon I’ll get to see the first generation of silkie-mutts on our farm!

Wonderful Assortment
I ordered 5 of the Silkie Bantam Specials, as I didn’t want to hand pick color. I picked up the order and you gave me 6! I got two whites, two blacks, a buff, and a blue. Three of them wound up being roosters, but they do fairly well together and seem to be a nice family. They all grew up with no problems and are the happiest chickens I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t be happier with my order! 🙂

Cackle Hatchery
Our chicks arrived this morning at our local post office after being shipped less than 48 hours ago. We appreciate the quick shipping the post office provided. But, more to the point, we appreciate the service you provided. We have done 4H chicks in the past, but never with your hatchery. These little chicks were packed with exceptional padding to give them extra padding and extra warmth during shipment. It only took a half hour of the intense heat and more sugar water and they perked up. They are cheeping, moving in and out of the light and seeking water and food on their own already!
